Every so often I’m blown away by an experience, and my recent visit to enjoy High Tea at The Taj Hotel in Cape Town was one such experience!
I arrived at The Taj with one of my closest friends for a good girly Saturday afternoon catch up, all set to enjoy a couple of sweet treats at the same time.
After a tour of the gorgeous old building which The Taj Hotel inhabits (including the luxurious Presidential Suite that blew our minds!!) we headed down to indulge.

I’m a sucker for a high tea buffet but often my experiences of high tea have been rather disappointing… not this time!! The High Tea offering at The Taj was definitely the most impressive I have come across – the table was laden with all sorts of delicious treats and there was a great spread of savoury and sweet all beautifully presented. It was hard NOT to photograph everything….

As you can imaging when faced with a spread like this it’s impossible to fill your plate just once, so we went back, and we went back again, and again. Basically we lost count of how many times we refilled our plates. What a bonus then that the high tea buffet was “eat as much as you like”. We totally did!
In between sampling one of everything we decided on our favourites and went back for more of those. At the same time we selected two different teas to try from their extensive menu. We opted for the waitresses recommendations and were very glad we did. The tea’s were a great departure from my usual, and quite land black Rooibos!

Living the high life certainly came quite easy to us, and before we knew it we had spent over 3 hours chatting and feasting! It was such a beautiful place to spend a few hours and we felt transported to another world in the opulent surroundings of this 5 star hotel…
We had an amazing time at The Taj and even if we never get to spend a night in that Presidential Suite we can at least get a small “taste” of the good life any time we want by booking another afternoon off to indulge in High Tea at The Taj. At under R200 a head it makes for a great treat for a birthday, anniversary, Mother’s Day, Kitchen Tea or Baby Shower and I’ll be sure to be back soon!
